Forest road travel rules
- Hyderabad route (NH 765): The road passes through the Amrabad Tiger Reserve between the Mannanur and Domalapenta check posts, about 55 km apart. The forest road is closed to all traffic from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
- Dornala route (from Guntur, Kurnool and Nandyal side): Travel beyond the Dornala and Ganapati check posts is not allowed between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
- Motorcycles and scooters: Motorcycles and scooters are allowed on the forest road during open hours (6:00 AM to 9:00 PM). This applies to motor vehicles only; it does not cover bicycles.
- Bicycles: It is not confirmed whether bicycles are allowed or not allowed on the forest road. No rule for bicycles has been published. If you plan to cycle, ask at the forest check post (Mannanur or Domalapenta on the Hyderabad route; Dornala on the Dornala route) before entering. If allowed, remember the road closes to all traffic at 9:00 PM, so you would need to cross the whole forest stretch (about 55 km on the Hyderabad route) before then.
- Walking (padayatra): The forest footpath from Venkatapuram (Atmakur mandal) to Srisailam, about 43 km, is normally opened only during Maha Shivaratri and Ugadi.
- Festival nights: During some festivals, such as Maha Shivaratri, the forest department may keep the road open at night for a few days. These exceptions are announced separately each year.
These are forest department rules and can change. Check with the forest check post or official announcements before travelling.
Travelers should plan their journey accordingly and avoid reaching the forest check points after the closing time.
Timings: Nallamala Forest closes at 9:00 PM and opens at 6:00 AM.
